The organizers of TEDx Athens have released the video of one of the most well-received talks of the TEDx Athens 2014 conference two weeks ago.
Julian Treasure makes a compelling case for the benefits of the simple act of listening. Improving our listening skills would help both or day-to-day lives and make our society more democratic as a whole, he argues in this clear and entertaining talk.
While social media and new technology have provided us with a vast range of new ways to talk to one another, Treasure wonders whether we are losing the capacity of conscious listening – especially as this skill is not taught in schools. And when we are constantly plugged into our smartphones who are we actually listening to?
On an international level, Treasure wonders if rather than holding high-level talks, perhaps world leaders should hold-level 'listenings'?
