Defence Minister Panos Kammenos, in statements to ANT1 TV channel, ruled out the possibility Greece participating in military interventions against ISIS. "Greece's role as a guarantor of stability in the wider region is more important," he underlined.
His comments were echoed by his deputy. Greece is ruling out the possibility of taking part in military operations against the Islamic State in Syria, alternate Minister of Defence Dimitris Vitsas said. "I do not think anyone can force us. Greece plays a different role. We want a decision that will include an element of political stability in Syria," he added.
The announcements came just days after multiple coordinated terrorist attacks across Paris that left over a hundred people dead. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the atrocities.
There is a certain risk of terrorists using refugee channels to enter Europe, Vitsas said, adding that two of the Paris attack perpetrators were French citizens.
