Efthimios Fotopoulos, who is opposed to the creation of the hotspot, was verbally abused when he appeared at a demo and tried to defend his handling of the issue.
As seen in the video, some demonstrators tried to attack him but he managed to escape.
Locals have been demonstrating against the creation of the hotspot, claiming that the abandoned military base is not appropriate for housing refugees and saying that they have presented to the Greek government alternative locations.
Greece has pledged to build five "hotspots" on the islands of Chios, Kos, Leros, Lesbos and Samos, plus two transit centres in the mainland.
Diavata is one of the two in the mainland, the other is in Schisto, Athens. Those two will house up to 4,000 people each for 72 hours.
