Libya is in flames and lives are lost through unchecked violence. In light of the situation the Greek government has decided to evacuate the Greek diplomatic mission and has sent a frigate and a detachment of naval commandos to do so.
The frigate Salamis left the fleet base and is expected to reach Libya sometime today.
The naval commandos, members of the elite underwater demolitions team, are charged with extricating the Greek mission from Tripoli. Other countries have also contacted Greece to request that the Greeks carry out their staffs as well.
Yesterday, a similar effort by a French warship failed, and France is among countries requesting Greek aid.
So far serious clashes have been reported by the Red Crescent in Benghazi where at least 75 corpses were counted on streets, while a further 50 were found in a base contested by islamists and rebels and vacated by Libyan army special forces.
