The mother of slain anti-fascist rapper Pavlos Fyssas, Magda Fyssas, testified in the trial of neo-Nazi Golden Dawn that the party trains killers to exterminate opponents just as they did to her son.
“The doctor told me nothing could have been done. The knifing was professional, and even if it had occurred just outside the hospital we could not have saved him,” Magda Fyssas quoted the hospital physician as saying the night of the murder.
Magda Fyssas said her son was surrounded by about 23 individuals dressed like Golden Dawn members, with DIAS policemen on motorcycle at a close distance, until murderer and Golden Dawn member Yiorgos Roupakias came by car to perform the hit job on Fyssas.
Roupakias was said to have been sent by Golden Dawn’s top official in the Piraeus area, MP Yannis Lagos, who is thought to have controlled the party’s organised storm troops in the city.
Magda Fyssas said there was a special guard policemen who was pretending to be the honest broker, going back and forth between the Golden Dawn group and Fyssas’ circle. She appeared to suggest the guard might have played a role in facilitating the murder.
The mother of the victim testified that her son’s girlfriend pleaded with the policemen on the scene to intervene when Fyssas was being attacked by over 20 individuals, but they said there was nothing they can do.
“The police and Golden Dawn are one and the same,” Magda Fyssas asserted.
Golden Dawn is said to wield deep influence in the police force, in which the neo-Nazi party enjoys a high percentage of electoral support.
Magda Fyssas said MP Yannis Lagos contacted party leader Nikos Michaloliakos to apprise him of the incident, and that the Piraeus Golden Dawn storm troops do nothing without Lagos’ approval.
Michaloliakos claimed “political responsibility” for the murder of Fyssas just days before the September 20 general elections.
Asked by the court what she believed the Golden Dawn murderers’ motive to be, Magda Fyssas said, “They want to impose their force over anything that is opposed to them. It’s what I heard [local Golden Dawn cell leader] Patelis saying in a video – ‘Whatever moves against Golden Dawn is annihilated’. It happened the same way with Sachjad Lukman [a 27-year-old Pakistani killed by Golden Dawn]– with a knife. They are trained killers. This is a criminal organisation, Magda Fyssas concluded. “That night they wanted to kill, and they killed.”
