Slain rapper's mother insists order to murder her son came from the top

Golden Dawn continues to harass family of slain Fyssas

Golden Dawn murderer Yiorgos Roupakias enjoyed close ties to police, such that he wasn't even handcuffed at a precinct when Fyssas' death was confirmed, mother says.

The mother of slain anti-fascist rapper Pavlos Fyssas told the court in the trial of Golden Dawn that the group continues to harass and threaten the family and insisted that the party and its storm troops have maintained particularly close ties to Greek Police.

“With no compunction, they continue to be provocative even after the murder,” Magda Fyssas told the court, in her second day of testimony.

“Barely 50 days had passed when a Golden Dawn storm troop contingent desecrated the site of my son's murder. They forced people to take the literature they were distributing. They drove by under our house with their motorcycles and the appearance of Golden Dawn members, as if to say, 'We are here. We are not afraid',” Fyssas' mother testified.

She told the court that both the family and their lawyers have been receiving threats.

The court at the same time decided that any audio or video evidence pertaining to the case will be played in the courtroom when case documents are read out.

Magda Fyssas also revealed information about the privileged status accorded to Golden Dawn member Yiorgos Roupakias upon being arrested following the murderous attack on the activist rapper.

“Okay guys I'm one of your own,” she quoted Roupakias as saying when he was escorted into the police patrol car. When an officer asked him if he is a policeman, he replied, 'I am from Golden Dawn'.

The crucial element is that police who were already at the murder scene and saw Fyssas and his friends surrounded by Golden Dawn ended up arresting only members of Fyssas' party, and no one from all the Golden Dawn assailants.

The victim's mother cited inside information indicating that when Roupakias was taken to the local precinct, the murderer was so familiar with the environment that policemen mistook him for an employee, with legs crossed and cell phone in hand.

When word came to the precinct that Pavlos Fyssas had died from Roupakias' stabbing, the culprit asked to be taken to another area and was told by officers on hand to walk up to the third floor on his own. “That is how familiar the environment was to him,” the mother testified.

The family and those who are civil parties to the criminal case against Golden Dawn have asked the court to play a video highlighting the inner workings and absolutely hierarchical structure of the criminal organisation.

Magda Fyssas has maintained that the murder could not possibly have gone forward without express clearance from the top party brass.

“For the last two years I have been preoccupied with nothing else but the murder of my son. From all the material and all the evidence, I have seen that nothing happens if the leader does not approve,” Magda Fyssas said, referring to party leader Nikos Michaloliakos.

“It cannot be otherwise. That is the hierarchy. It is an ideology, intrinsic in what is called Golden Dawn,” she said.

Magda Fyssas also cited from the court record a wiretapped telephone conversation of a certain Nikolaos Apostolou, who has been charged in the case, who asserts that Roupakias “is a strong cadre of Golden Dawn, not a chance member”.
