Speaking on Skai TV, Dimitris Mardas, revealed that the government is mulling over a plan to examine the economic profile of the 50,000 migrants and refugees currently stranded in Greece.
He said that he will propose a scheme whereby the Greek authorities identify newcomers who have deposits in excess of 250,000 euros at foreign banks and would consider investing in Greece in exchange for “preferential treatment in the purchase of a house or as to their right to remain in the country.”
Mardas said that the legislation already exists that would allow such as a scheme.
Social media users are aghast at Mardas. Many accuse him of stupidity and cynicism.

Who wouldn’t give 250,000 euros to have the right to live in Greece?
γιατί ποιός από εμάς δεν θα έδινε 250.000 ευρώ για να έχει το δικαίωμα να ζήσει στην Ελλάδα; #mardas <-- άθλιος pic.twitter.com/Vkbx6NPdek

Opposition party "To Potami" responded sarcastically: "Along with the migration crisis, the government also solves the economic problem of the country".
