Prime Minister Antonis Samaras will present his ambitious new growth plan for the country today, according to which the new production model will create some 550,000 jobs in the next four years.
Samaras chose this day to present his new growth plan, as part of a strategy ahead of the second round of local elections and European Parliament electiοns.
Moreover, Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras, Development Minister Kostis Hatzidakis and CEO of KfW Dr. Ulrich Shroeder, will present the operation of Institution for Growth in Greece, IFG.
The new plan focuses on tax cuts for both businesses and taxpayers, as well as a reduction of social security contribution and indirect taxes on production.
The new plan also involves the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises through the National Strategic Reference Framework funds, the European Investment Bank and the newly-formed Greek Institution for Growth, IFG.
The overall strategy focuses on reforming the production model in Greece, with a stress on nine different sectors:
tourism,
primary production and agricultural manufacturing,
energy,
transit trade and combined transport,
research, technology and innovation,
pharmaceuticals,
metal industry,
construction materials,
shipping and services.
With foreign investments being important, the growth plan that PM Samaras will present today involves reducing bureaucracy and simplifying procedures as well as deregulating the market, in order to support competition.
Government supports Sgouros and Kaminis in the second round of elections, Kedikoglou says
The government does not support candidates who seek to overthrow the government, government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou said yesterday.
Speaking on private TV station Mega, Kedikoglou said the government supports the candidacy of Yiannis Sgouros for the Attica region and the candidacy of Yiorgos Kaminis for the Athens municipality.
Asked on Piraeus' election results, he said that nobody in Piraeus seeks to overthrow the government. He added that “candidate Vassilis Mihaloliakos is a member of New Democracy , but nobody asks for a vote that would overthrow the government”.
Government spokesman Simos Kedikoglou further stated that the government would do more over the coming days to inform people about the dangers of Golden Dawn after the Neo-Nazi party performed strongly in Athens and Attica in the first round of Sunday’s elections.
Kedikoglou said he failed to understand why voters still backed the extremist party even though its leader and MPs, including Kasidiaris and Panagiotaros, have been charged with crimes.
Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, speaking late at night on Sunday to the media about "positive and indisputable results" of the first round of local government elections, said that local government elections would be completed with the second round of elections on May 25, but it was important for Greek citizens to vote in the European Parliamentary elections on May 25.
"Next Sunday we also have the battle of Europarliamentary elections...where we must show that Greece has the stability it has won...It is in the hands of Greeks, either to contribute so the Greek people have the security (that we need to) forge ahead with stable steps or let the country slide backwards," he said.
