A new poll conducted by Metron Analysis for Parapolitika 90,1 has opposition party SYRIZA widening its leading over New Democracy.

According to the poll the difference between the parties stands at 5.9%.

The full breakdown is as follows:

SYRIZA – 25.7%

New Democracy – 19.8%

To Potami – 6.9%

Golden Dawn – 5.3%

KKE – 4%

PASOK – 3.4%

According to the head of Metron Analysis, Alexis Tsipras has seen his party’s poll numbers improve after receiving a boost following his speech laying out the party’s platform at the Thessaloniki International Fair and making friendly noises towards more centrist parties.

The poll will also be heartening for To Potami, the new party founded by journalist Stavros Theodorakis which is in a comfortable third place, while PASOK’s 3.4% will only serve to heighten concern within the party where the mood is already dark due to internal divisions.

In response to the question, “who is most suitable for Prime Minister” 30% opted for Antonis Samaras versus 23% for Alexis Tsipras.

When asked who would be the best person to manage Greece’s debt problem, 35% responded in favor of the prime minister and 28% for Alexis Tsipras.

Voters were almost evenly divided on the question of whether early elections should be held in February. 49% believe that parliament should elect a new president and the government should complete its term, while 45% want elections.

47% of respondents said that the government’s move to seek a vote of confidence was a positive one, while 40% said they consider it a mistake.

Alexis Tsipras narrowly topped the popularity ratings with 41% of respondents saying they had a positive view of him. Antonis Samaras and Stavros Theodorakis were tied on 40%.

Meanwhile PASOK leader and Deputy PM Evangelos Venizelos came in a miserable 7th place at 23%, ahead of only the imprisoned Golden Dawn leader, Nikos Michaloliakos who was ranked favourably by 11% of respondents.
