The announcement of the name of Dimitris Hatzis at the end of events at the 5th Festival of Industrial Informatics (co-organized in Kavala by the Technological Research Center EMT and EMT junior college) as the recipient of the 2nd prize of this year's event, rather embarrassed the attendees in the conference hall the exhibition center "Apostle Mardyris" New Karvali.
An embarrassment, which then gave way to admiration and applause. It could not be otherwise, since Dimitris Hatzis is just a 14 years old, ninth grade student at the 6th Kavala Junior high School. Dimitris worked on robotics for the first time at age 11 and just three years later managed to design and build himself a home printer for three dimensional objects, deservedly winning praise and the 2nd prize of the 5th Festival of Industrial Informatics.

The little scientist received a barrage of congratulations for the distinction but mainly for the fact that he is a shining example of patience, perseverance, willpower, intelligence and modesty.
Valuable assistant and supporter, father George Hatzis could not hide his joy and satisfaction at the achievements of his son.
As the young engineer said, it took a year to study, design and build the 3D home printer to participate in this year's Festival of Industrial Informatics.
As he revealed, however, the initial idea was to create a bionic arm to be an extension of his own hand. But when he surfed the internet he realized that the purchase of materials would top 1000 euros, while for the printer, the cost of materials was 500 euros. The entire amount came from the savings made on pocket money given by the parents and the money collected at celebrations from relatives.

The attempt to describe the work of Dimitris pales in front of the image of the machine that prints - manufactures useful items available in every home.
He explained that "three-dimensional printing (3D printing) is a method of manufacturing prostheses, in which objects are made by the sequential addition of successive layers of material. Various types of material can be used in three-dimensional printing, but mainly polymers, which have the ability to print models or parts with different mechanical and physical properties. Much interest currently is shown in the evolution of home 3D printers especially RepRap, which is the first printer that can print the pieces that compose it and thus to reproduce itself. "
Dimitris built all the parts constituting the printer himself and adjusted the necessary software, after many hours of work, and many failed attempts and frustration, when he realized that by pressing the printer he got just plastic strands and not the result he sought. Then he realized that the software needed improvement and after much persistent efforts results justified him and so he printed the first item, which was a spoon.
What triggered his strong interest in robotics was a science fiction movie he saw with his father when he was studying in the sixth grade. In the film the robots were engaged in a wrestling match.
