Three youths attacked University of Macedonia professor and member of “To Potami” political party, Nikos Marantzidis in Thessaloniki on Tuesday.
According to media reports, Marantzidis, was with a student at a local cafe, when three young men approached him and voiced their objections to the professor writing articles criticizing the left.
The three men punched him in the head and kicked him. Then they ran off and Marantzidis was taken to the hospital for treatment. However, he was released after being examined.
To Potami made a statement at its Twitter account, where it stated that “Fascists are a disaster. Cowards are a pity. Coward fascists that surround, beat and then run away are worth mocking. Niko, we wish you the best and keep on laughing at them”.
The attack was also strongly criticized by socialist Pasok Party, which condemned the attack against Professor Marantzidis.
