Somniphobia - day 31 of #inktober / #feartober . FearTober book launches tomorrow. Might wanna sign up on the AMN mailing list today. Just saying ;) This fear is unexpectedly common, as sleep disturbances like nightmares, stress about work or relationships can lead to or reinforce somniphobia. Those who have frequent nightmares are at greater risk. People with this phobia might experience insomnia, sleepwalking and bed wetting. The root word “somnus” is Latin meaning “sleep”. This fear is also called "hypnophobia", the fear of being hypnotized, a condition where the person is literally made to go in a sleep-like state. The term “clinophobia” originates from the root word “clino”, which is Greek for “bed”. Thank you so much to everyone who has followed me on my second inktober journey. Launch day tomorrow! #inktober2017 #feartober #shawncoss #amnclothing #popeofhell_art

Epistemophobia - day 30 of #inktober / #feartober . FearTober book launches Nov 1! Epistemophobia is the fear of knowledge. The origin of the word epistemo is Greek (meaning knowledge) and phobia is Greek (meaning fear). It is important for us to continue learning everyday because once we stop learning, our minds begin to stagnate, and we ourselves stop improving. But for an epistemophobe, too much knowledge is frightening. This fear might have been brought about by learning something, like for instance reading in a medical book about a particular disease and realizing its severity made someone wish that he or she did not read about it in the first place. One might also feel responsible that they should share their knowledge with other people and fear that what they pass on to others is erroneous thus they refuse to learn so that they don’t have to feel responsible for others. Knowledge is power, and some fear this power that they acquire when they are knowledgeable. People with this fear will do anything to stay away from books and will not read anything on the newspaper or magazine. One might also refuse to watch television for fear that they might learn something from it. Treatment ironically involves teaching the person not to fear learning or knowledge. They should be taught that learning new things is part of our everyday lives #inktober2017 #shawncoss #amnclothing #feartober

Philophobia - day 29 of #inktober / #feartober . FearTober book launches Nov 1! Follow @amnclothing to know when the book and prints launch! Thought I'd go for a more metaphorical description of that falling in love feeling. The fear of love (or falling in love) phobia is known as Philophobia. The word originates from Greek “filos” which means ‘loving or beloved’. Individuals who suffer from this phobia fear romantic love or forming emotional attachments of any sort. As far as unusual phobias are concerned; Philophobia certainly ranks high in the list. Often this phobia is known to have cultural or religious roots, where the person may have been committed to an arranged marriage and hence fears falling in love. #shawncoss #inktober2017 #phobia #feartober #inktoberfear #philophobia #butterfliesinmytummy

Kenophobia - day 28 of #inktober / #feartober . FearTober book launches Nov 1 at @amnclothing An empty space can be viewed as something with much potential as it can be converted to anything a person wants. But for persons with kenophobia, empty spaces or voids are viewed as something scary. This fear can be passed on from the parents wherein they have lived in a house full of stuff that may be viewed by others as a clutter but for that household it makes fills the emptiness of the home. Filling voids gives the phobic personality the feeling that they are placing boundaries around themselves. For them, an open space can mean emptiness and being alone and this phobia is closely associated with fear of solitude. A phobic individual does not mind having guests but find it uncomfortable visiting others especially if they visit a big house with a big empty guestroom. They would rather stay in a small and cramped space than be in a spacious room. Symptoms of Kenophobia include tremors, increased heart rate, shortness of breath, loss of control, urge to flee empty spaces, nausea and fainting. Engaging in a therapy can help a kenophobic, to understand the fear and how to manage future fear triggers. Individuals also respond well to anti-anxiety medications. #inktober2017 #popeofhell_art #kenophobia #feartober #phobia #horrormovies

Agoraphobia - day 27 of #inktober / #feartober . FearTober book launches Nov 1! Follow @amnclothing for early access! Agoraphobia is known as an abnormal fear of public places and open spaces. It is considered as an anxiety disorder however, it is now believed to be a complication of panic attacks. The exact causes of such condition are currently unknown, but it is said to be linked to the presence of an anxiety disorder, a substance abuse or a stressful environment. The chronic use of tranquilizers and sleeping pills such as benzodiazepines are also linked to the cause of agoraphobia. There are various treatments that can be considered to cure such condition, including the following: Exposure treatment – this can provide lasting relief to most patients suffering from a panic disorder and agoraphobia. Relaxation technique – considered as a useful skill when it comes to combating the development of agoraphobia in most patients suffering from anxiety disorders and/or panic attacks. Cognitive restructuring – provides treatments which are useful in treating agoraphobia. Eye movement desensitization and reprogramming or EMDR – considered as a possible treatment but has shown poor results. People suffering from anxiety disorders, such as agoraphobia, find comfort by joining support groups and through self-help. Another preliminary evidence shows that aerobic exercises has calming effect instead of caffeine, illicit drugs or over-the-counter medications since these options can only aggravate the symptoms of anxiety disorder, and should therefore be avoided. #inktober2017 #feartober #phobia #popeofhell_art #agoraphobia #shawncossart #cossnotcross #creepypasta #horrors

Blennophobia - day 26 of #inktober / #feartober . FearTober book launches Nov 1 Blennophobia is the irrational and persistent fear of icky, gooey, and slippery slime that can occur in some people. Slime can be found in nature or can be man-made and are usually transparent, sticky and viscous. This fear could have been triggered by seeing a person getting slimed on television such as in the horror movies where people might be swallowed alive by aliens and opening up the aliens’ belly would reveal the person still whole and covered in thick gooey slime but already lifeless. Some might fear that slime can have an offensive smell or it can have germs in it so they get anxious when they see it. This fear may have also been brought about by fear of ghosts, like people who were born to the time of Ghostbusters who can associate ghosts with slime and Slimer. Some might have accidentally slipped on goo and sustained injury thus this fear develops. On the other hand, snails produce copious amount of slime and people might have experienced eating escargot in restaurants and have found the experience unappealing thus they develop blennophobia. People with this fear get extremely anxious when exposed to slime. They may have palpitations, tremors, shortness of breath or may have nausea and vomiting when they see escargot. Treatment includes avoidance of slime since we do not encounter slimy stuff every day. Medications are rarely needed as well as psychotherapy. #inktober2017 #shawncossart #popeofhell_art #feartober
